Thalasso Therapy

Doctor de La Bonnardière, a doctor from Arcachon, France, invented the word Thalassotherapy in 1867 from two Greek words meaning “treat with the sea” (in Greek, thalassa = sea and therapeia = treatment). True thalassotherapy must be carried out in close proximity to the sea.

Thalassotherapy takes place in a special marine site combining the use of all the benefits of the marine environment under medical supervision with a preventive and curative aim. These benefits include:

  • marine climate
  • seawater
  • marine mud
  • algae
  • sand
  • other substances extracted from the sea
